Sunday Worship - "Overcoming Adversity" Part 2

Mar 23, 2025    Sr. Pastor Travis M. Tullis

Luke 4:18-19 says, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

Senior Pastor Travis Tullis continues to remind us that Jesus Christ has already overcome adversity and freed us from sin and brokenness. The focus scriptures are Luke 4:14-30.

In Leviticus 25:8-13, the acceptable year of the Lord is called the year of Jubilee. It came every 50th year, liberating people from their debts, freeing all enslaved people, and for those who had lost their property, it was restored. This concept of the 'acceptable year of the Lord' signifies a time of divine favor and restoration, a period when God's grace is poured out in abundance.

Consequently, Jesus said He came to preach the acceptable year of the Lord in Luke 4:19; He proclaimed the Gospel, which is Good News to those who have been oppressed, brokenhearted, and poor in spirit. We can now be set free from social, financial and political corruption. Because Jesus has set us free, we can overcome adversity, knowing that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. As a result, we must move with faith to gain tremendous strength, stay connected with God's people, and trust God despite our past experiences.

Thank you, Senior Pastor Tullis, for leading us forward and higher together by encouraging believers to have faith to overcome adversity by trusting and believing that Jesus has set us free to live in joy and peace.
