"I Must Get Out of My Mind" Part 1
"I Must Get Out of My Mind." Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." This does not mean abandoning reason or intellect; instead, it's about aligning our thoughts and attitudes with Christ's. When we get out of our heads and our own way, we can become overcomers through Jesus Christ.
Through scriptures, 1 Corinthians 2:16, Philippians 2:5, Jeremiah 15:10-11, 17:9, Romans 7:18, and Proverbs 4:5, Senior Pastor Travis Tullis provides guidance on being aware of where our mind goes when we get out of it.
Elijah and Jeremiah are two biblical heroes who were prophets who also struggled with serious stress, depression, and anxiety, just like many of us do in our minds. When Jezebel said she would kill Elijah when he had all the false prophets of Baal killed, he ran into the wilderness. During this time, Elijah was going through depression, but God came and spoke to him and told him to go back to his assignment.
Similarly, through his loneliness, the prophet Jeremiah struggled with anxiety and depression. Because Jeremiah was the only prophet standing, speaking the truth, he sometimes felt alone. While other prophets said peace would come to Israel, Jeremiah spoke of judgment approaching.
Even in the face of these mental battles, the prophets were not deemed unfit to serve God. We all have our roles to fulfill. In a time when stress, anxiety, and depression are rampant, we cannot forsake our duty as believers to follow Jesus. He can infuse our minds with life, peace, joy, and love, dispelling the darkness of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Thank you, Senior Pastor Tullis, for leading us forward and higher together, guiding us toward understanding that we are not alone in our struggles; we can walk, speak, and do things God has called us to do by faith in Christ Jesus.
